Former DR Congo international striker Tresor Mputu Mabi has announced his retirement from football aged 37.

Mputu, who spent most of his playing days at local giants TP Mazembe, announced his decision to quit the game on Thursday.

The famous attacker ends his career that spanned more than two decades, spending most of his time with the Ravens.

The biggest highlights of his career came during 19 trophy-laden years at the Lubumbashi-based club where he flourished.

Mputu helped TP Mazembe to win two TotalEnergies CAF Champions League titles which made him a hero among fans of the club.

He quits the game on the eve of the start of the group stage matches of the 2022/23 CAF interclub competitions.

Mputu, who spent all of his club career on the continent, won several other titles during a 19-year stay with The Ravens'.

He joined Mazembe from Kin City in 2002 and never looked back.

Even though he sandwiched his 19 seasons at Mazembe with a brief spell at Angolan side Kabuscorp, his best days were in DR Congo.

The native of Kinshasa inspired Mazembe to their first TotalEnergies CAF Champions League title in 2009, scoring nine goals and winning the Golden Boot that season.

He was subsequently named the CAF African-based Player of the Year thanks to his heroics during the competition.

The striker led his DR Congo club to another triumph in the CAF Champions League the following season and also aided them to retain the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup that season.

He was a key part of the TP Mazembe team that finished second at the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup.

Mputu made three appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, playing in the 2006, 2013 and 2019 editions of the tournament.

The striker helped his country to win the maiden edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2009 in Cote d'Ivoire and was named the Player of the Tournament.

He will join Mazembe's coaching staff with immediate effect.
